When to find a new teaching job

Have you thought about finding a new teaching job recently? With everything that’s happened in the past year and with colleges reopening, April/May is the perfect time to start your search. Further education and commercial training hiring efforts will grow over the course of the next two months; they’ll be looking to fill positions in time for the new academic year.

Here’s a few reasons why it could be time for you to consider making a move.

1. You’re bored

Are you excited to wake up and get to work every day? Are you being challenged in your role? A job in teaching may have promised a rewarding career with no two days being the same, but if you’re bored and feel unheard in your college or training centre maybe it’s time to look for a new job that can offer you all the benefits of teaching you may be missing.

2. Students

If you’re finding it hard to connect with your students; maybe due to their ability, age group or another factor, this can lead to those students being disengaged. Which, in turn will make it feel like an uphill climb every time you walk into the classroom.

3. Relocation

Your circumstances may have changed, going from living just around the corner to over an hour’s commute. Sometimes this is unavoidable and the only way to start improving your work-life balance is to move your workplace closer to home.

4. New challenge

You might like your colleagues, students and setting but is there room for career progression? Don’t let the comfort of your current employer stop you from changing jobs to move up the career ladder. Having the opportunity to take on a new challenge will give you more experience and the more you have, the better teacher you’ll become!
